Scalp Conditions & Scalp Care
Healthy Hair Starts with a Healthy Scalp
Scalp Health
Most people know Sara for helping clients with hair loss, but scalp health has become an equally
important part of her work. In fact, around one in three clients attending for hair loss are also found
to have an underlying scalp condition that may be contributing to excessive shedding, poor-quality
hair growth or ongoing irritation.
Some people notice obvious symptoms such as flakes or itching, while others are completely
unaware there is a problem until their scalp is examined under magnification.
A healthy scalp provides the ideal environment for healthy hair growth
Why Scalp Health Matters
Your scalp is living skin, and like the rest of your body it can become inflamed, irritated or unhealthy.
When flakes, excess oil or inflammation build around the hair follicles, the scalp environment becomes less favourable for healthy hair growth. Left untreated, scalp disorders may contribute to excessive shedding and, in some inflammatory conditions, permanent damage to the hair follicles.
Early diagnosis and treatment can often restore a healthier scalp environment and support stronger, healthier hair.
Common Scalp Conditions
Sara regularly helps clients with a wide range of scalp concerns, including:
Dandruff
Seborrhoeic dermatitis
Scalp eczema
Scalp psoriasis
Oily scalp
Dry scalp
Itchy scalp
Inflamed scalp
Scalp sores and irritation
Build-up around the follicles
Every scalp condition is different, which is why careful examination is essential before treatment begins.
Not all flaking is the same
Although many people simply describe their scalp as “dandruff”, there are several different causes.
Some people experience only mild flaking, while others develop thick scaling, crusting or soreness. Some have persistent itching, whereas others have no symptoms at all.
Two of the most common inflammatory scalp conditions are eczema (seborrhoeic dermatitis) and psoriasis. They can appear very similar, yet often require an experienced eye to distinguish between
them and determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
Why scalp conditions can be harder to treat
Unlike the skin elsewhere on the body, the scalp is covered with hundreds of thousands of hair follicles.
Hair makes it difficult for lotions and creams to reach the skin, while thick layers of scale can prevent treatment products from penetrating where they are needed most.
This is one reason why scalp conditions often persist for years despite repeated attempts with over-the-counter treatments.
What can trigger scalp problems?
Scalp conditions often develop as a result of several contributing factors rather than a single cause.
Common triggers include:
Yeast overgrowth associated with seborrhoeic dermatitis
Stress
Hormonal changes
Certain medications
Allergic reactions or contact sensitivities
Hair dyes and styling products
Illness or infection
Cold weather
Trauma to the scalp
In some cases, vaccinations have been reported by individuals as coinciding with flare-ups, although evidence is still evolving.
Even after the original trigger has settled, the scalp condition itself may continue until appropriately treated.
A different approach to scalp care
Many clients tell Sara they have struggled with scalp problems for years despite trying numerous shampoos, creams and prescribed treatments.
One reason is that products alone often cannot work effectively if thick layers of scale are preventing them from reaching the skin beneath.
For many years, Sara performed specialist in-clinic scalp exfoliation treatments to gently remove persistent build-up before beginning treatment.
Today, that same philosophy is available at home through her specially developed Scalp Exfoliator, helping prepare the scalp so treatment products can work more effectively while
reducing the need for frequent clinic visits.
Personalised scalp treatments
Every scalp is different.
Following a detailed examination, Sara creates a personalised treatment plan tailored to your scalp
condition, symptoms and underlying health, combining clinical expertise with carefully selected
products to restore a healthier scalp environment and support stronger hair growth.
Healthy hair doesn’t begin with the hair itself – it begins with the scalp.
