Traction Alopecia

Traction alopecia occurs due to sustained tension on scalp hair. This tension causes hair to loosen from its follicular roots, but hair loss can also result from follicular inflammation and atrophy. It is sometimes referred to as ‘cosmetic traumatic alopecia’ because it arises when the hair is subjected to tension from cosmetic practices such as braiding, ponytails, or sleeping in rollers.
