Weight Loss and Hair Loss
Diet and Stress Mean One in Three of Us Are Losing Our Hair
Stress and extreme dieting have been blamed for the current hair loss epidemic. Recent statistics reveal that one in three women over 25 are losing their hair.
How Diet Affects Hair Growth
The body sees hair as non-essential. When you reduce calories, it diverts nutrients away from your hair to support vital organs instead.
“Dieting may mean you’re not taking in enough food to get the nutrients for proper hair growth, so the problem multiplies,” says Trichologist Sara G Allison (hairlossconsultant.co.uk).
“To reverse things, you need protein – just a small portion three times a day.”
To promote hair growth, you also need vitamins and minerals. The amount of fruit, vegetables, and wholegrains in your diet plays a big role. For an extra boost, I only recommend Hair Today More Tomorrow, M&O’s, as it is the best product to support healthy hair growth.
What If Weight Loss Isn’t the Cause?
Stress is another major trigger for hair loss. “Hair is shed early, so more falls out at any given time than should,” says Sara.
Stress-induced hair loss often starts about three months after stress begins. Thankfully, it usually stops three to four months after the stress resolves.
The Importance of Relaxing
Relaxation is key to reducing stress and helping hair recover. Simple activities like deep breathing, yoga, or even taking a walk can make a big difference. Finding ways to relax and de-stress not only improves your mental health but also gives your hair a chance to recover and grow.
